Unlike the Mercedes-sourced 4.0-liter twin turbo V8 engines that are used alongside it, the 5.2L twin-turbo V12 engines still use the same parts as their naturally aspirated predecessors. However, the oil filter placement on these new engines is far better than was on the 6.0L engines, so there’s no need to mess around with the throttle body and fish the filter out of the engine bay anymore!

Needed

Oil Change Package
0w20 engine oil
Socket
Ratchets for the above socket
Drain pan
Oil funnel
Paper towels or shop rags

Torque Figures

Drain plug: 25 Nm. (18.5 lb/ft)
Oil filter: 25 Nm. (18.5 lb/ft)
Access panel bolts: 23 Nm. (17 lb/ft)

Before you begin

WARNING: This process includes warming up the engine to ensure the engine oil is fluid enough to drain properly. Be careful of hot oil and hot surfaces while doing this job.

Step 1

Run the engine for 5 minutes.

Note: Once finished, wait 5 minutes before draining the engine oil in Step 4.

Step 2

Remove the oil cap from on top of the engine - this will allow the oil to drain smoothly from the oil pan.

Raise the car off the ground using a lift or a jack and jack stands.

Step 3

Remove the center undertray.

Step 4

Place a drain pan under the drain plug, then use the hex bit to remove the drain plug on the oil pan at the bottom of the engine.

Discard the old drain plug. Once the oil has finished draining, clean the drain plug area and install the new drain plug.

Drain plug torque: 25 Nm. (18.5 lb/ft)

Step 5

Set the drain pan under the oil filter, then remove the oil filter. Engine oil will begin to drain as soon as the filter is loosened.

Allow the engine oil to fully drain, then clean the oil filter area.

Step 6

Put a dab of engine oil on the thick rubber O-ring of the new oil filter, rub the oil around the O-ring to lubricate it, then install the oil filter.

Note: Failure to lubricate the rubber O-ring can result in the filter seizing to the engine.

Step 7

Reinstall the center undertray.

Step 8

Use the oil funnel and fill the engine with 10.75L of 0w40 engine oil.

Check for any leaks, then reinstall the oil filler cap.

All done!
